If you had a photo of a red-headed woodpecker to compare this with, you'd know why the latter claimed the name: their entire head is bright red! The red-belied woodpeckers do have a red patch on the lower abdomen, but it's really hard to see in the field. If this guy had been on the far side of More...

Thanks TerrierCyn, For the answering about the difference of the two woodpeckers. I have had the redheaded woodpeckers but never got a picture of one. I do have a Pileated Woodpecker the one Woody Woodpecker resembles on my page. I also have some pictures of other friends who have visited my yard.
