The five pink petals look like a ballet bird a talented 2nd grader might draw: The leaf pointing up and to the right is the head. It even has a pink eye and white tip on its beak. Next come right and left arms/wings. One leg is pointing left and paralleling the left arm/wing. The leaf/petal pointing down is the 2nd leg. The bird is obviously doing a piourette (sp?) or leap.

Bromeliad sounds like something you'd take for an upset stomach and headache. Now, I'd take one if it made me feel like the 'bird' in the picture.

Donde esta Sue hoy? Her backyard? Hawaii? An island off Germany? Do you have your own jet, Sue -- would love to be your roadie!

What a wonderful heliconia and composition. It made for a fun puzzle!

Beautiful, but it's a heliconia not a bromelliad!
This is a bromilliad: http://www.oztion.com.au/buy/auction.aspx?itemid=6415500
This is a heliconia: http://www.plant.id.au/home/guide_view.aspx?id=6
It was probably an accidental misnaming - I've done it especially when copying & pasting names for multiple photos
