it's hard to make out when there is nothing to show the scale, but I'm guessing that this is actually more like a lake than a puddle!!

The little black specks at the lake's edge are people, if that helps get some perspective. It was quite vast scenery and apparently volcanic ash rained down for several days after the first subsidence, although there was no lava flow from what I understand.
