Sorry After I worked it I see its the stranted ship.

Think you are right Martha. Either the boat is too big or the water is too shallow.Good puzzle

I think this ship was stranded on the east coast of Australia last year.
 |  |
Do you suppose this ship was a Katrina casualty?
 |  |
this is a repeat and is much easier than it looks. Poor Captain, something went very wrong. The worst thing that can happen to a crew.

I saw a video of ships being stranded on a beach in North Africa. They salvaged them. It was terrible.

Pretty sure it was stranded on our coast used tugs to get it out.

It is a photo of the ship 'Pasha Bulker' which was blown ashore during a gale onto a beach near Newcastle in NSW. I think I gave it the title 'A Very Poor Piece of Parking'. It was eventually towed free and returned to Japan for repairs. I think this photo has been on before, but I'm not certain because I have three photos of the stranded ship floating(!) around somewhere.

The refloating of the Pasha was actually quite an engineering and maritime feat - tribute to how countries can work together when they really try.

I enjoyed doing this one as I didn't have to get the straight pieces done first. Tackled all similiar colours and joined up that way. Prefer doing it that way - more satisfying.

Have done Pasha Bulker before but not sure if this particular photo - great angle, Ian.

Yes this is the Pasha Bulker, I've seen pictures on the web on it. It pretty remarkable that they got it back out in the deep ocean and it wasn't harmed. Beautiful picture and good puzzle, fun to work. Monday 02/26/08

That was quite a storm! I was actually there when the ship came 'ashore'. My photos were taken through the rain and wind so are not as clear. Full marks to the helicopter rescue who winched the sailors from the ship while the storm was still raging.

Thanks, Ian. I think this is a different one, so it's probably one of the floaters, except it isn't floating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, June about the helicopter rescue. You had a couple on jigsaw too, I think. I certainly enjoyed doing one or two others as well as Ian's. It was an awesome storm!

ntd, wouldn't the worst thing that could happen to a crew be drowning rather than being beached?
 |  |
I enjoyed the puzzle.

Hi, it is the Pasha Bulker,I am born bread and live in Newcastle my self. Nobys Beach, at the mouth of the Hunter River and the entrance of Newcastle Harbour. Photographed as much as the Q.E.2 I would think. I have never seen so many people with cameras. I truly remarkable sight to see in person.
