I have a family of racoons in my backyard. Cute to watch, but I had to nail up the cat door to keep them out of the house.

Good morning from snow-covered Baltimore.
 |  |
Good evening B ; we have here no more snow, but it is could brrrrrr about 1-3°C over 0.
 |  |
Our racoons are all asleep down in the back woods right now. Watch out come Spring. Very nice outside but not in the house, or around the garbage cans.
 |  |
Also good Maen from snow covered northern Kansas! I'm ready to go somewhere warm!
I love the flower pictures on a gray, cold morning.
 |  |
SO CUTE!!!

Ruth to keep raccoons away from your garbage cans put some bleach or amonia on the bottom and lid. I did that years ago and I haven't been bothered by raccoons, dogs knocking over garbage cans or anything else since.

I thought raccoons were nocturnal? Cute little critters and very smart.
 |  |
They are cute aren't they. Are they dangerous or just nuisances?
 |  |
Glenice they are not aggressive, but will bite if cornered -- so will Gerald, I understand. Also, they may carry rabies.
 |  |
Thanks for that Judy. Guess I best stay away then, from raccoons and Geralds!!!!!
 |  |
Oh....also....does Gerald carry rabies as well???
 |  |
Don't have racoons in my backyard but have chickens. 3 are only 2 months old. I got them after my grandson's class at school had a heap of eggs in an incubator watching them hatch. Unfortunately 1 has turned out to be a rooster and has to go. Not allowed roosters in suburbia. Anyone want him?
 |  |
.From is right, I have used Amonia...Lemon Amonia that is, seems to do the job best.
Even here in Fl. it keeps the critters away.
Cute little guys.

I agree with Kathy I'm ready to go somewhere warm. I was teasing my co-workers today about 2 feet of snow would be nice....as long as it wasn't on the sidewalk and streets
 |  |
someone cut off her oxygen.
 |  |
They are cute BUT I know the damage they can do..some got into the attic of my son's house and oh, what a time he had getting rid of them!
 |  |
Coons are cute, but awfully hard on the bird feeders! But not as hard as a bear, who DESTROYS the feeders!
 |  |
No takers for my rooster???
 |  |
Gerald, no gnawing on my oxygen hose! Would you believe I posted that message before the 'Easy' spat? It's true. Just trying to get your attention -- you know how your girls are!
 |  |
BTW, everyone, Gerald's tests came back negative for rabies and he's on his way back to ton! Helena, must tell you, the raccoons will eat your chicks. They aren't picky, ate all but one of my gold fish.
 |  |
Judy, perhaps a racoon will solve my problem of getting rid of the rooster. Joking of course. Poor darling. He can't help it if nobody wants him.
 |  |
Suppose to snow but it a beautiful cold day, and no snow. Cute coons. 01/19/08

Got a diamond python out of a neighbour's chook shed yesterday (with my husband's help). The neighbour's away & the python had already swallowed 2 budgerigars that lived with the 2 hens as company. The hens were not happy about the python being there!!!!!!!! but were happy to go back in when it had More...

Actually that hadn't happened when this puzzle was on - I forgot I was doing the weekends puzzles from the archives. That happened on Sunday 20th Jan & I typed it on Monday 21st Jan!
 |  |
Ugh, Kate, snakes of any type give me a bad case of the willies! That was nice of you to return it to the wild and secure the chooks. Too bad about their little buddies.
 |  |
And, Helena, I did think of recommending the coons as 'takers' on your rooster, but didn't want to say it. Never, poor Mr. Rooster!
