Good gad, the poor thing! Wonder if that's to keep the children away, they can certainly be destructive in their eagerness to explore.

Excuse my ignorance but can anyone explain what a "Captive Tree" is? Thanks

Joann, it is not a species of tree, it was just that it looked like it had been tethered to the ground. The restraints were, I presume applied in an attempt to train the tree's growth. It was, after all, in a Japanese garden. I felt sorry for the little tree.

I also found it to be a fairly challenging puzzle.

Is this Bonsai on a big scale? If not, we should form a PETT group: People for the Ethical Treatment of Trees. If the evening were younger, I might have been able to come up with a Y and or an R for PETTY or PRETTY, but it's past my bedteime.
