Beautiful flowers. What kind are they?
I've not seen this type of Bee before. Don't have them here. Maybe we could use them right now. There's a disease going through the U.S. bee population right now that's killing whole hives. It's devastating the Honey industry here.

I agree with you, Heidi. I don't know when the last time was that I saw a honeybee. Last summer we had what are called cicada-killer wasps. They burrow into the ground, then catch a cicada, drag it into their burrow, lay their eggs on it, and leave. YUK! The only good thing is they don't mind people - unless you pick them up. Now who in their right mind would pick up a big wasp!?

Beautiful flowers. Is the bee a hive one or solitary?

Is it a variety of lavender? Bee looks quite annoyed at having its photo taken.

Nice flowers also, thinking the bee enjoys the color.

Elizabeth is right it is lavender. Heidi it's a native Australian bee. You can't see the blue bands in that picture. Dorthea it's hive would be in one of the gum trees in the area. The bee must have been getting a lot of pollen because I got quite a few photos!

I'm going to google this bee and learn more -- you've intrigued me. The bee crisis in North America also affects all areas of agriculture. If the crops are not cross-polinated, they won't produce, and that's a bad thing!

The great big bumble bee is great to see, always busy gathering pollen to make honey. I love honey, its the only food that doesn't go bad. And Kay's right, if the bee disappears so will the crops - a very serious situation. A great close-up Kate, and lavender is so fragrant. Its said you'll sleep better if you have some in your room. (Lots of trivia today!)
