That looks a LOT like one of our Chipmunks, a type of Ground Squirrel. These are found ALL over North America.

Janet! So good to have you here in sudokuland and vicinity!
This little critter is what my dad called a ground squirrel and he knew everything. Sp cute and small -- somewhere between the size of a mouse or a rat but no ugly naked tail.
Another good photo, Keyan!

Welcome Janet. Keyan, did you leave the nut out on purpose for the squirrel (like I do here for the birds). I didn't know that squirrels were even in India, goes to show you learn something every day in Jigsaw land

I recognize him as a ground squirrel, or chipmunk, too. Those little critters do get around, don't they? And now, I'm going to be hearing Alvin and the Chipmunks in my head all day, LOL!

Chipmunks/ground squirrels live in Iowa, too, but they don't have so much tail. This little one looks like the result of some kind of crossbreeding between a chipmunk and a tree squirrel, which are also brown but no stripes. My aunt called chipmunks 'peanuts', because of their body shape. I like that idea, so instead of Alvin and co., I think Charlie Brown!

The little creature is called a three stiped palm squirrel and is very much beloved in India. And here is more:
In religion and mythology
Squirrels are considered sacred in India and are not to be harmed. They are even fed by many Hindu families. This is mainly because of their More...

Wow Judy! I just learned a lot.

Now for the Kentucky side of things (and there may be a connection, Karma-wise). Here, Rednecks LOVE to hunt and eat squirrels. A favorite delicacy is the brain. But squirrels here carry a prion in their brain similar to Mad Cow Disease, and when the yokels eat them, they get this nasty, incurable disease. See? Karma!

Oh, Heidi, you are one in a million -- what a riot you are, girl! Thanks for the Karma story, I think you're right. What's that cute avatar? Even with my glasses on I can't make it out!
