I find the different colors and textures of rocks fascinating. You can read the geologic history of a place in its rocks, though some are much harder to "read" than others!

I love rocks. I have a large collection of 'neat rocks', garnered from fields and gravel roads I've walked, relatives' flower gardens, and even one biggie I jumped out of my van in my teacher clothes to haul out of a roadside ditch... When I got home, the rock was too heavy to lift out of the van More...

You guys are funny - I love your comments! I understand about rocks - I almost cried when I had to leave a small bag of beach rocks - oh, were they ever sooooo beautiful! - in Italy because my suitcase was so heavy this summer!

This is a lovely and inetersting photo - thanks, Kate!

Absolutely gorgeous! I used to be purchasing manager for a large aggregate company, and the world of "rocks" is fascinating. I loved talking to our geologists, and learned a lot. I never now think of a rock as being just a rock.

Loved everyone's stories - thanks.
If you ever get to drive (4x4) along the beach from Tewantin up to Rainbow Beach (QLD) there are some wonderful coloured cliff faces - no doubt hence the name "Rainbow Beach" - I believe I read somewhere about an Aboriginal dreamtime tale in which the colours are from a rainbow serpent.
