We have wind farms near us. Do your cut off the heads of the birds? I don't mind the crows, as they have driven off all the song birds, but I hate to see the decapitated hawks.

Great shot, there is so much controversy around wind farms but I think there should be more of them

Dorthea, I never thought of the birds. I guess this may be a necessary evil, but I, too, would hate to see the birds hurt or killed.

Thank you for your lovely comments.
Dorthea - I doubt that the blades would cut the heads off the birds as they are enormous and not sharp and the birds so small in comparison. Perhaps the odd bird may fly into them and be stunned or killed but I don't think it would happen very often.

Old time windmills were so much more attractive. These skinny blades are quite homely. And now that I know that they kill birds, I really don't like them. Maybe they should go back to the old design. I never heard of them killing birds.

Very nice photo, Anne. I have my pros and cons about wind turbines, but in the end I'd rather see those producing power than to be using up all of our fossil fuels, I think. The old time windmills were used to directly turn gristmills and also to pump water. The turbines of today are used to More...

Thank you for clearing that up about the birds. I do like the idea of using wind power in stead of fossil fuels. Every little bit helps. It is a lovely photo Anne. I don't think the windmills are ughly.

Yes, we've got all that energy at our disposal. The roaring winds, the crashing tides, the sun beating down -- surely we can use those things without depleting resources which are not renewable. We have to get a grip! End of rant.

A bit of windmill trivia: "What had 2000 kilowatts, created devotees called 'wooshies', was the largest of its kind in the world, and didn't work?" A windmill built in Boone, NC by the U.S. Government. For more, go to
