I don't pop in much anymore but everybody is out and about today and I have the computer. Also enjoyed this one and pleased to see some names I recognize. lots of new ones. hope it won't be as long until I am back.

I agree with Joann. This is not what we call a bird of paradise..otherwise known as strelitzia...but a pretty picture anyway,

This flower is of the Heliconia family and generally known as 'Crabs Claw' Native of South America. What we gernerally call "bird of Paridise" is as Janet says a Strelitzia and is from South Africa.

St. Lucia is a beautiful island, full of charming people -- I'd have to call it "Paradise!" (Wish I had the wings of a bird, I'd be there.)

Hi all, there are lots of these flowers in Bali too, but not what we think of as Birds of Paradise. I had wondered if this was part of the Bromeliad family. Maybe some of our knowledgeable plant people can set me straight?
