This photo makes me wonder how one pole can hold the weight of the plane, interesting.

Or--maybe this is how it gets refuelled???

Do you think it is a real plane? Must be a model. Neat sign, tho....

It is a real plane. I've seen other displays like this and it does seem fake. My husband is a fan of military aircraft and he has taken me to many an air museum. He assures me they are real, but some of the inside parts may be taken out to lesson the weight.

It's the strangest plane I have ever seen..if I knew the name of it, I would look for some information.

Ian will be able to tell us about the aeroplane - I'll have a look later and see what he says.

Pat, The caption under the sample pic says it's British, DH112 Venom

Good puzzle.

Interesting photo. Who submited this?

Here is some info on the Venom. I have seen one at a recent air show. I love jets. My old boss called me a jet junkie.

No14 SQN RNZAF operated leased RAF aircraft (FB.1's) while based at Tengah, Singapore between 1955 and 1958. One of these Venoms (WR282) was the first RNZAF operated More...

Pata, thank you for helping me out. As the comment indicates, it is a De Havilland Venom, sometimes known as the Sea Venom. It is the Naval version of the Vampire aircraft, which is one of the earlier British jet aircraft. I am old enough to have flown four different Marks (versions) of the More...

I have just read Stagelady's interesting comments - the earlier versions I flew had no ejection seats, just jettison the canopy, roll the aircraft over and hope that gravity worked fast enough to avoid breaking your legs on the tail boom.

Stagelady, how do you know so much detail?
 |  |
Ian, she probably googled it. I got the same information at http://www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/venom.html
And that was just for starters. Isn't the Internet a marvel!
 |  |
PS: What a thrill to have actually flown them, Ian!
 |  |
Judy, I think you're correct and yes, the internet is the best thing since sliced bread. I googled both the Vampire and the Venom and found fairly good information on both aircraft in Wikipedia. Yes, it was fun flying them, particularly flat out at low level along the 90 Mile Beach. But of course More...

The title does not go with the comments, but it was fun to do.

Ian, if you should find yourself back at this puzzle, my Dad flew C130s also.
