Octopus soup or a lovely Greek octopus casserole. Now I'm hungry. In Detroit, Michigan, USA, fans have for years been throwing an ocotopus on the ice when a goal is scored by their hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings. No idea how it started, but it's a common practice for some reason.

This was NOT what I needed to see at breakfast - all I can thin to say is GROSSS!!

Mmmm not an octopus fan myself, & I can only imagine the smell after them being left in the sun for a while.

In Cary, a suburb of Raleigh, octopus is called calimari. It's fried and served with a spicy tomato sauce and is a trendy appetizer with the yuppies (or as my son calls them, 'the up and ups').

Calimari is actually quite good if it's tenderized well and lightly fried. And raw octopus, thinly sliced, is delicious in sushi.

nantucket - we also call it calamari here and it is delicious fried quickly.

Yasoo - calamares! Delicious when cooked just right - vulcanised rubber when it's not. Ahh, beautiful wonderous greece - wish that I was on one of the islands now; horrifying to think what's happening with the fires in the hills - and the tourist areas as well come to that. A hundred years ago - that's the time to visit.

So that's what calamari is! I thought it was some type of escargot. I will definitely try them next time I spot them on a menu.

Calamari looked so good batter-fried like clams or shrimp, my husband and I decided to try them. They are bland and tasteless and a waste of time. We each took one bite and ordered something else.
