Windmills were invented in what is now called Iraq. They are common all over the world where there is a steady supply of wind and little surface water.
 |  |
I only lived 4 miles from a reasonably large town actually it was classed a city (50,000 people) and we had a windmill to get our water. I remember the diviner walking around with his divining rod to work out where o sink the bore. That was 50 years ago.
