how to tell the difference--wing position. Damselflies fold their wings along their bodies, and dragonflies rest with the wings pointing out at 90 degrees. Nice greens!

Dragonflies are also bigger, with thicker bodies. But the wings are the #1 method of IDing them DanS.

We have lots of damsel flies and dragon flies in the summer. They're always welcome.

I agree with KristyB. We always welcome the dragonflies and damsel flies because their arrival marks the beginning of the end of black fly season!!!
