Bit difficult I think, Joan. But during the depression (1930's) Homeless men lived on it - they had running fresh water in streams & plenty of fresh fish, crabs (seasonal) and oysters to eat! The bow & stern have been removed and are now memorials, one in Parramatta Park (Sydney satellite city) and the other on Garden Island Navy docks. It was our first war ship & served in WW1!!

I've never thought about the Great Depression being international -- that's interesting. People did all sorts of desparate things to survive those years. My Mom's family spent the summers camping in tents on a desert-like island and rented out their home in town.
