I wonder if the airstrip is built on the only flat ground on the island - certainly looks like prime realestate in any case.

In a few hours I will be at the airport. Flying out to Sacramento, CA to spend the week with my mom. I am going to miss seeing these photos everyday.

Landing an aircraft there would be something of a challenge - short strip, overwater approach. I guess that lots of aircraft have landed there successfully - I don't see any piles of bent metal at the far end of the runway!

I've never had a picture up before and this and the easy are both mine. This is a short runway and it's dirt, but only small planes land here. It's about an hour from San Juan, PR. Done it several times. The only other option is a ferry from Tortola, BVI where the airstrip is a wee bit more modern, or a ferry from USVI--where the tourists go!!

Greg, I'd like to see one of your pilots land a 747 on it.
Come to think of it, I'd like to see anyone land a 747 on it - and I won't be watching from the far end of the strip.

Ian, I think that Greg was referring to Canadian bush pilots. Change the hill into a mountain, add a stiff breeze with white-capped waves, and below freezing temperatures, and you'll start to get the picture of normal. This would be a 'piece of cake' to most of them. By the way, Alaskan bush pilots are just as skillful.

John, I think Greg knows that I was only pulling his leg. I have a great deal of respect for Canadian bush pilots, they are skilled and fearless. My Canadian cousin was a bush pilot.
As for that strip, I used to be able to land a Caribou on strips about that size in Papua New Guinea, but not now - I am too old.
