Trees are so interesting and all diferent. Nice puzzle.

This looks like shelf fungi on a dead tree, but I'm puzzled about the red spot at the top of the fungi, and the blue spot at the bottom of the tree.

It's too bad the detail isn't better on these photos, but when they want them downsized to 50K, I think you lose so much resolution that sometimes it's hard to recognize certain things!

Cindy, looks to me like somebody up top with a telephoto lens, and his blue hat fell off

I've enlarged the photo. It's a 'shoe tree'
A lot of fun - makes one to wonder where all the single shoes come from.

A 'Shoe Tree' how funny! LOL!!

Interesting!

Congratulations, speedy Jean Paul!

Maybe they are not single Ruth. Just a lot of discarded ones. But who would bother???

Some of the mining towns in the Pilbara region of West Australia have the tradition that when you leave the town, you hang your boots in a tree. Maybe this is a version of that.

Helena from Brisbane. I suspect most of the shoes are lost from not too secured luggage on top of cars. Most of them are pretty beat up and need to be discarded. Good for a laugh. There is a tree on the Alcan Highway up in the Yukon which had been going for years.

I would love to see the shoe tree, but what I'm seeing is a pretty fallen leaf, photographed against a background that looks kind of like sand. It's beautiful in its simplicity, and the colors are outstanding. 5/10/08

I'd say that the down-sizing of the tree really worked, all that is left is a leaf!
