That was hard. Interesting picture.

There must be an interesting story behind this one.
 |  |
I wish I knew the story behind this. It was photographed sticking out of a tree beside the footpath in Richmond, NSW. However, since the photo was taken some rotten sod has pinched the axehead. So now it's just another tree.
 |  |
Ian I like the way you talk. some rotten sod has pinched the axehead.
 |  |
Nice puzzle. So the rotten sod takes the axehead home where it sits in his garage until his wife makes him throw it out. Whereas if twere left where found it would be a wonderment to future walkers. Rotten sod!

I'm glad it got stuck - someone was probably trying to damage the tree. Hope it hasn't gone to be used for more damage. Probably just taken for a wedge when splitting firewood. It gets quite cold in Richmond in the winter! thanks for the picture & the 'conversation', Ian.
 |  |
I agree with Kate about damage to the tree. Also why does someone want to take a photograph of what is not art but destruction?
 |  |
Kate and Hana, I suspect that it was wedged into the tree as an act of mischief, not destruction. If I were trying to cut that tree down there is no way I would take a swing at it with an axe in that position. As for photographing it, I saw something unusual and interesting and took a photo. Em tasol.
 |  |
Hey Hana, the axehead was already in the tree. Taking a photo did not do any damage and there was no destruction, the tree was still growing. Someone elses attempted destruction didnt happen!
 |  |
PS. It is a great photo!
Does anyone else have problems with apostrophes? Sometimes (like now) I cant put one in, the computer wont let me it jumps to a box on the tab bellow & say find!
 |  |
Thanks Kate for your support. I'm sorry I can't help you with your apostrophes - I use an iMac.
 |  |
Sorry for bellowing. No shouting intended just a quiet BELOW!!

I knew what you meant Kate. I'm off for a couple of hours now.

My youngest son had a thing for the 'Wizzar of oz'. He loved the Tin Man and had his own plastic ax. He wanted to chop down a tree at the age of 4. Your picture made me remember.
 |  |
Good on you Ian for bringing us interesting pictures. I like taking photos of things that most people wouldn't bother too.
 |  |
Thanks Wendy, I was beginning to worry that I had offended somebody - and all I did was take the photo.
 |  |
great photo Ian, just a shame that the axe head was removed. but maybe someone had a good use for the axe head.
 |  |
Yes, it is a shame rosemary. I can't think that it would have been useful to anybody because it was pretty rusty and worn. I think it was a simple act of malicious mischief.
 |  |
ian, you take some wonderful photos. is there anywhere you haven't been yet?
 |  |
Maen. It is 3.8.07 in IA and I am a little late in doing this puzzle. I did read all the remarks yesterday, but didn't feel up to challenging this puzzle. Wow with all the remarks about the axe in the tree did anyone try to fix it. That ax was probably put in the tree many years ago and the handle has deteriorated. A good puzzle Ian.

What a challenging puzzle for hard. Glad I kept going as once again Ian has shown us just how clever he is with his 'off beat' shots.

An action photo. Cliff, you spoke again! Jan.26,08

Whatever the circumstances behind leaving the axe in the tree, I'm glad Ian took the photo. I think that it is and artistic photo, and the picture says a thousand words. We just don't know what they are.
