Is this coral? A wonderful picture!
 |  |
Yes Richard, great bit of coral & it's also an Ian's picture!
 |  |
Actually Kate and Richard it is a photo of a cactus. I haven't seen one shaped like this before and I thought it might make an interesting jigsaw. The photo was taken at a local show a few months ago.

Good MaEn everyone - wow, now that one was hard! MUST get my eyes tested, real soon! Can see the coral swaying in the sea now - beautiful. But then again, cleaned out the fish pond this morning, and a lot of the stuff I dredged out looked a lot like this (and my didn't it smell lovely too!). The frogs would love it. Have a good day/evening everyone.

Ouch! Ouch!

Oh it's a cactus - unusual one, probably has a very beautiful flower. Trod on (well stumbled awkwardly onto)a cactus in the greenhouse a few years ago - not a good move - and spent ages trying to pick the blighters from the sole of my foot & leg. I gave the cacti away pretty sharpish - we'd More...

Wow that was challenging... just how I like them.
 |  |
that.. was fun. a wonderfully shaped cacti, with a bit of the impressionist in the presentation
 |  |
That was a challenging puzzle! I too thought it might be an underwater species. Thanks for the photo and your explanation Ian. Any idea where it originated?
 |  |
I've seen this cactus labeled as 'brain cactus' in the local nurseries here. There is another fun one too - it is called 'old man cactus' and it has whisps of white hair all over it!

Greg, I'm afraid I can't be any help. I looked up Wikipedia and was confronted with eleventy hundred scientific names and nearly gave up. I then found a page of photos but ours wasn't on it. So now I quit. Sorry.

Ian, thanks, this was indeed an interesting and challenging jigsaw puzzle

Tough one today!

I am so glad I am so late today 'cause now I know what this is!! Never would have guessed it and it is truly the result of wonderful photograpy and a great eye...

Is it a Teddy Bear cactus?
 |  |
Yes, ouch, that was fun and nearly painful at the same time-used up way too much time-off to work-have a great day everyone.
 |  |
Rach from Chicago - no, Teddy Bear cactus is a type of cholla. It gets that name because it is really soft looking. But the prickers are so soft that they stick in you and then you can't get them out, they just break off and leave some in your skin. It really burns and causes redness like a rash.

This was really time-consuming. Interesting but probably the most trial-and-error jigsaw we've had here.
