These birds are quite common around my neighbourhood, had 2 adults and 1 baby roosting in a front yard tree, it was a delight to have them around, and you can approach them easily, they seem rather unafraid of humans. Sadly, many are 'road kill' due to their penchant for chasing moths etc., shown in car headlights.

I will have to find out more about these birds...they look interesting.

I forgot to mention before that these are nocturnal birds, during the day they roost on tree branches etc., where they blend in so well with their surroundings that you can be right next to them without really seeing them, although sometimes their big yellow eyes can be seen.

Had one on my fence in a pot. We had a cup of tea & talked till I realized I hadn't put the 'log' in the pot! 10th Apr'07
