Very cool. What kind of shell is in front?

And, going back to yesterday: I didn't know where Riverton, NJ was. From the photo, I thought it might be on an inlet near the ocean. Surprise! it's on the Delaware River. I've seen that river many times, but never looking like that!

Interesting collection, especially the foreground shell. I also liked your choice of background colors!

Lovely photo. The "shells" in the foreground look like empy barnacle cases to me.

Kay for the unique shot. Bev my money's on you, it does look like barnacles, that was my first thought too. Kay, will you paint these shells to add to your beautiful selection of art?

I, too, think that they are barnacles in front. Fascinating!

Thanks to all for the compliments. I have a collection of shells, and this is one of the photos that I've taken. The lighting colors were enhanced a bit in Photoshop, but the shells were left untouched. I have done several shell paintings, but not this one (yet?). Yes, the front shell is a barnacle shell.

The shells with their varied shapes, colors, and lines made an intriguing Hard puzzle! Thank you for sharing again. I spent an hour with my daughter picking up rocks in a field across the road. The famstead has been cleared away for the building of a 4-lane highway, so lots of interesting rocks More...

Kay, I too, have a shell collection which we started during the two years we were in Papua New Guinea. I have photographed some but I see that I haven't included the photos in my gallery. I must remedy that.
What is the background shell?

Ian, by all means I'd love to see your shell photos! I believe the one in back on my photo is a chank, though I'm not sure. I have a large collection, but haven't taken the time to identify them all. I'm not a very scientific collector, for sure....

Chank? Well, I looked it up and see it is also spelled shank or shanka or conch -- finally one of which I've heard. I thought it was a whelk. A lovely composition, Kay! I love to collect shells. We are just awash in beauty all around us aren't we!

Kay, I too know it as a shank. I have put a few photos up in my Gallery. There are lots more that I haven't photographed yet. In particular, I must get around to photographing some of the rarer shells - some time.
