Lovely flowers! john - is it true, will spring come? Seeing flowers like these does help keep the hopes up! What are they, oh mystery photographer?

Ian - March 9, 2007, your message to Wendy: what does 'win the chook raffle' mean? If I do volunteer work in Australia, will I ever know what people are saying?!

Joan a chook is aussie slang for a chicken. Often on Friday evenings in the local clubs, be they sporting or social, they would raffle a chicken to raise funds - hence the name 'chook raffle'.
You know you would always be welcome down here - volunteer or not. The slang isn't that bad and the locals will always help you out - just ask.
 |  |
Well Joan we will have to start teaching you some Aussie slang. The rhyming slang is the best. How about this one. 'Me China is in a bag of fruit' China is short for China Plate which is the rhyming slang for Mate. A bag of fruit is rhyming slang for a Suit. So it means
'My mate is wearing a suit'
I thought the flowers might be African Tulips which grow on a huge tree?????

Thanks Ian and Helena - I can dumbfound all my friends with unintelligible remarks! I hired a crew member (archeology) who was from Denmark but received his grad degree in Australia - now that was an accent!
I thought at first the flowers were the large Fritillaria Imperialis, then maybe simply More...

Joan I am from Denmark, I have worked very hard to loose my accent and am almost there.
Lovely flower and good puzzle.

Very late getting here today.I took this picture while in Hawaii, on Maui driving to Hana. The tree was covered with these flowers. I have no idea what type of tree or name of flowers, just thought they were pretty. Nice to have a new picture also.
