I grew up in Chicago, Liz, and it sure is peaceful compared to it, but, at this time of year every place is busy. I still have three presents to buy!!!!

Eilat from Israel, I have actually managed to guess a few of Ian's photos but this one has been shown on the other puzzles a few days ago. Plus I have been into Ian's page, you can too, and looked at his photos on flickr.

I plan to add a ballon trip into one of my future holidays - just not sure of the destination yet.

Debbie, the only thing you can choose in ballooning is your take-off point; everything else is downwind from there. Mine was done in the Hunter Valley, but there are lots of companies around OZ who will take your money. Flights over cities can be exciting, but so can the landing . I think that More...

On a clear still saturday morning, I look overhead and there they are again! Balloonists overhead, scaring the horses and cows.

Ian, what a magnificent photo of an absolutly beautiful part of the world. I used to live about 15min drive from where they take off and regularly saw the ballons in the winter time. not so much in the summer time, perhaps the wind took them in a different direction that time of year. I don't know why I ever moved away.

Steve. Our balloonists in brisbane don't do too much flying in summer. Winter is the best time with winds. Maybe that is so in the Hunter too.
Yes Joanne they do make quite an unusual noise. First time I heard one overhead I thought we had a strange animal nearby snorting. Couldn't make out what it was till I looked up.
