to Sue. This reminds me of a trip my husband and I took in NS. Ahead of us w saw a black bear crossing a 2-lane highway and when he was in the middle he spanned both lanes! They are huge!

There was a black bear spotted in our neighborhood recently. He's wearing a tracking collar, so he's under constant observation.... probably more for his safety than that of the locals.

I just finished a novel in which bears were the major theme. It said that black and grizzly bears in Alaska are so much bigger than bears in the lower 48/Canadian border area because Alaskan bears have an easier time of getting food, specifically, fish.
