46.1 kms according to Google Earth--but that's by road of course and windy ones at that--distance as the crow flies???? Looks like it would be less as the route curves back on itself.

And who was Govett and why did s/he leap?

As you can see I'll do anything to avoid putting more references into my electronic library--boring!!!!!
