I know why they live underground in Coober Pedy, but I'm not sure that I could stay here. I'm not claustrophobic, but I find it difficult to sleep without an open window for genuine fresh air.

Does this mean that there are no windows in the rooms? I have a touch of claustrophobia, so I don't think I'll be staying there.

Same here, I'd rather add extra blankets to my bed than sleep in stale air.
And - thanks to Google - I now also know about the underground in Cooper Pedy. Educational, this site ....

I slept in a no window bedroom on my first cruise. They had so many mirrors that you didn't even notice that there was no windows and lots of little lights.

I've never been there although it's relatively near but 'people say' that the amount of lighting and the ventilation means that you are not aware of being underground--I always wonder about that though and whether I'd be expecting the rock to cave in.

I'll have to look up Cooper Pedy. I thought this was the start of converting a semi truck trailer into living quarters! My depth perception is a lot better than my claustrophia. I don't even like parking garages that are open all around!

I did look up Cooper Pedy. Very interesting. I couldn't live underground (I don't think.), but I'd be very comfortable in a town that size. A lot of towns in this part of Iowa have a population of about 2,000.

The hotel has come up in the world since we were there! Once we stayed in the underground caravan park!! Mister Bob and I love this town We were surprised to pick up shards of opal with colour in the car park. I must look up old photos of some surprising signs around the town.

It's supposed to be full of interesting characters--some of whom are leaving 'interesting' lives behind
