I've got them growing in my garden, but I can't remember the name of them.
Very pretty.

Looks like sea corals

These are very pretty and they do look like sea corals. Can you see them waving in the water???

These are proteas - there are over 114 species of protea in Africa, 82 of which occur in southern Africa. Other plants in the same family are found in Australia and South America. The king protea, the most spectacular is the national flower of South Africa, some are up to 30cm accross. The pink one on the picture is more common and the coral ones, on the right, are pincushions.

Bright way to start the day. Proteas are great for attracting the birds.

Thanks for the explanation Helena! Lovely flowers!

Beautiful. Thanks Helena for your answers. I knew the pink one was a protea, but I thought the others might have been dryandras which are actually proteas anyway! They come from WA. Can't see enough leaf!

I think the ones that Helena called pincushions we call Leuctospernum (can't quite remember the spelling). I don't know if that is their botanical name, but it is certainly what the young man at the garden centre called them. I've got them in my front garden, absolutely beautiful. Every year I get more and more flowers and they last for a month or more. The birds love them too.

And a beautiful image.....who's the photographer

I learn something every day here. These are gorgeous flowers. I'll have to see if any of the proteas grow here.
