Further to Jackie's comment Sharon, I gather the photo is mainly just showing us the engine at the back of the kart.
I think I would rather just watch it go 0-270mph in 5.35seconds than actually try it. How many kph is that anyway ?

It looks like a "rail" to me. That's also called a "dragster" in my area. One races them on a dragstrip. They usually have parachutes on the back to slow them down when they cross the finish line. Gentlemen, start your engines!
