For any of you who might not know, Terry Fox was a young man who lost his leg to cancer when he was 18. In 1980 he started his "Marathon of Hope", an attempt to run across Canada on his prosthetic leg. He started in Newfoundland and made it as far as Thunder Bay, Ontario (the site of More...

We also have a Terry Fox fun-run here in Canberra each year to help raise money, supported through the Canadian High Commission (it has an excellent pancake party afterwards). He truly was an inspirational young man and it is a worthy cause to support.

Thanks, Bev, for the info. This is of special interest to me, as my first husband had a leg amputated by a train. He, like Terry, did not really consider himself handicapped, and was able to do everything that he'd done before the accident.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. Our son grew up with a variety of "handicaps", not least of which was scoliosis, for which he wore a body brace from early grade school until his senior year. We didn't see him as handicapped and neither did he. He has a 4-year degree in accounting, a job, and wedding plans for next May 1. We couldn't be prouder!

What an inspiring story of that young man--thanks for that--I'd never heard of him--and great about your and your son's ways of being, Linda and your first husband's, Kay.
