Nice violets.

They look like violas.

What a bright spot of color poking through the dead leaves. I don't know what they are called, I just know that I like them. Isn't that one definition of 'art'?

Jean-Paul - enjoy your trip into the Black Forrest. We drove through there and it was lovely. I purchased a Cuckoo Clock while there.

Violets take over my whole lawn in the spring. They are pretty but enough is enough. I drove through the black forest and I felt like I had come home. My ancestors came from there and it must have been some kind of burried racial memory.

These must be one of the hardiest of spring flowers. They'll grow anywhere and any time. I still have them growing in my retaining wall and we have had a heavy snowfall and freezing temps up here in the North in Oct. - Nov. Love them because they are so perky at this time of year.

Sue, your garden must be magnificent...a lot of work, I'm sure, but the pleasure is so very worth it.

Yes I have lots of 'Johnny jump ups' as well. They just jump up every spring and spread everywhere. But I like them!

Doggone it, bluey and Big Red, I was going to be the one to inform everybody these are Johnny jump ups -- also called violas. Violets have a sort of heart shaped leaf. At any rate, another lovely photo by Sue from the garden of Sue! What talent!

They are called weeds here but I like them. I have a neighbor that hates them so he lets me dig them up and plant them at my house.

Don't you just love the little violas. They are so pretty and all you have to do is keep them water them. You must have a weird neighbor to hate those beautiful little dainty flowers. January 28,08

I don't think they are violets but in the same family. The violet leaf is rounder. They look close to a johnny jump-up or miniature pansy.
