Jackie, soft plastics would be the kind of lures he used, I think. I don't think it was the line or rod type. I could be wrong, though. LOL

Not a Red Emperor. Looks more like a Mangrove Jack or some type of Bass.
LindyLou, you were correct about the lure, they're soft jelly-like lures which often have been impregnated with particular scents designed to attract fish.

I think the fish is what we call a red snapper in this area. Or, maybe not, but the shape, fins and coloring is the same.

My goodness, doesn't the fisherman look like Ronald Reagan, who was known to wet a line on occasion, probably from the back of his horse.
