ntd, that's just a single flower, you should see the bush when it is a mass of crimson, just beautiful.

We Aussies are very proud of our native plants!

I love seeing the variety in the birds and flowers from different parts of our world.

There is also a good general article on Google.

Ian, I have never seen one and I will have to check to see if they will grow in NC. It must be an incredible bush. Your photos are always wonderful.

Thanks for the info. So far, cannot find a source in the US. Will keep looking and what a wonderful shrub/bush/tree!

We can grow them here in SoCal, have several in my backyard. They're good for attracting hummingbirds and are drought resistant.

For the longest, I thought I was decorating a Christmas tree...what an absolutely gorgeous flower...it must be breathtaking to see a whole bush...

We had many bottlebrush bushes arond our home when I was growing up in southern California. I remember a hummingbird making it's nest in one that was very close to a window. We were able to watch her sit on her eggs and feed her two baby birds from just inches away.

Libby, I agree. He's left His mark all over Australia.
Debra, you were so lucky. We find that they are a wonderful plant for attracting honeyeaters.

cheers all -good puzzle today-does anyone know if this flower has any scent?
 |  |
We also have them in our garden for the birds, and they are widely used here as roadside plantings. Never noticed a particular fragrance from the flowers Forelithe, but the leave have a sort of 'bushy' smell to them, especially if they are crushed.

A lot of people grow Red Bottle Brush Trees here on CapeCod. As long as they are kept dry in the winter with burlap or other green coverings, they do fine. We do have a milder climate than the non-coastal areas but we do get below freezing temps that do not last as long as the mainland.
