Do Woodpeckers see glass? Or is he just looking at you?

HELLO WOODY.!!!! They're big enough to make you worry that they might go through the window.
Magnificent birds. The second largest woodpecker in the Americas after the Ivory Billed (Long thought extinct, but recently rediscovered).

Good mAen! I would love to have this one peering into my window. What a thrill that would be. Great photo!

We see these in my neighborhood sometimes. Beautiful birds. I have never seen one this close.

What kind of woodpecker is he? He certainly is checking something out - possibly he sees those yellow leaves reflected in the window? Great picture.

He's a Pileated Woodpecker. About the size of a crow.

Okay, who typed in "piliated" in front of "woodpecker" while I was working on the medium puzzle? It wasn't there when I wrote my comment - I swear, it wasn't there!

Maybe I need a nap... "Piliated" magically appeared while I was working on the Hard puzzle, which I accidentally wiped out by clicking on the 'go back to where you were before you were here' button on this fancy mouse my daughter got me! NOW I see your answer, Heidi! Hey! Read my comment on the Hard puzzle and maybe you'll all understand my confused moments...

mAen all - I took this picture last fall, so it wasn't trying to run off a rival. We have a tree that produces tiny fruit that the birds love. I was just as surprised as it was when it landed on my windowsill! Thankfully, the camera was nearby.

I think he's looking at those two yellow leaves wondering why they're still there... He sure is a big bird.

Do you know that Woody Woodpecker was based on an annoying Pileated that would rap constantly on Walter Lanz's house?

Great photo, Peg. Thanks. I've seen a few on jigsaws but from behind or the side. This is a fabulous frontal shot! I think it's eyeing off that branch above & behind it a little! Probably saw the reflection in the window then got confused!

As big as a crow, you say? I'd love to see one of them -- great photo, Peg! I have a cardinal pecking the metal off my silver gazing ball -- I think he believes he's fighting with a rival. Very hard to get a foothold, but he's managed to do quite a lot of damage. Oh, well, he's a trip to watch! everybody

Now THAT would be a trip, watching that silly Cardinal.
...... and good night all.
