I miss blue jays, I haven't seen them in rural Alberta.

In our area they are bullies to the other small birds.

Beautiful bird. Are blue jays native to the US?

According to my bird book, they can be found year-round in the eastern half of the US and parts of Canada. I have a lot right now.

They can be bullies, but oddly, they don't seem to fancy coming onto my deck in the winter or spring to eat the bird seed I put out, so the little guys feel quite secure flocking to my feeders. They'll eat seed that falls to the ground below the deck, and they are quite cheecky enough to fuss at my cats!

Looks like this jay is daring us to just try and get its seeds!

They are so lovely, but nasty to other birds. I remember one pair of Cardinals that kept up a nest next to the house for years. And every year, as the babies were half grown, a Blue Jay would fly up to the nest and kill the babies.

Cute but nasty by all accounts!
We don't have them here so I think he is amazing.
