Interesting photo. Is it a theme park?

It's more like a museum. The tar pits have been surrounded by Los Angeles City, so it's weird to see an outdoor display of the tar pits still active within the city. The tar pits are still active, they bubble, excreting gases. They have found so many well-preserved prehistoric animals, even a human woman, preserved in the tar.

Just sculptures. It's quite a graphic display, but effective to show how these animals lost their lives being stuck in this muck.

I've been to the Los Angeles area only once in my 60 years. High on my list of priorities was to visit the tar pits. My itenerary allowed only one day to go there. I learned the hard way that that Tuesday was the one day of the week that they were closed to visitors.... I'm glad to have this little peek.
