Good morning, Sue - what a lovely pair of Iris! They are so small (yes?) - do you know their name?

Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow, and its genus does indeed include all colors of the rainbow. A stunning iris garden in the Memphis Botanical Garden has a large statue of this mythical goddess at its center. They range in size from tiny to gigantic. This looks like one of small native iris. Thanks, Sue!

Joan, Yes, they are small only about 4 inches tall. Sorry, I do not have their name. TerrierCyn we have some small native iris but the flower on those are more like a regular iris. I have some of those also, they are about 4 inches tall.

Wow, TerrierCyn! I have studied the goddess in all her many forms for years, but had never heard of Iris. Or maybe I just skipped past it thinking it was Isis, although she has nothing to do with rainbows. So, thank you for the lesson

Also, speaking of iris -- the flower -- each color has a distinctive smell. There is even one called rootbeer iris! Probably I am the only one who didn't know this.

Plus, kids, I bought a wheeeeelchair today -- my friends have agreed to push me around like to the movies or museums, etc. I still have the use of my legs, thank God, but get really tired if I have to walk far. So, lookit gramma go

Our native iris here includes the dwarf Iris cristata, but it has blue flowers and wider foliage. But wildflowers vary so much across this great nation! (like the wild columbine that is red with yellow here in the east, but a lovely blue with creamy-white in Colorado!)

There is also a More...

Beautiful color on this iris, and a superb hard puzzle to solve.

Judy, you go, girl! Next thing we know, you'll be doing wheelies.

Judy, you be good, now, and use the seat belt! We all would hate to hear that you busted something showing off! Kay, you are very naughty to encourage this potential dare devil.

Well, kids, I'll do my best to make the most of my "sickroom supplies" -- somebody told me I'd get taken to the front of the line to vote tomorrow. Then I'll have to put Mary in the chair and wheel her up to go in front. You think that will work?
