I was about 40 yards from this coyote, which I saw before it saw me. Once it spied me, it took off like a shot. Good instincts for an animal often shot on sight, but which has still expanded its range by millions of square miles in the last century.

I did this one first since I knew it would be hard on my eyes. I live in Alabama, halfway between B'ham and Tuscaloosa. I saw the first coyote I'd ever seen a few months ago and I'm 63. This used to be "country" but so many houses have been built, the wildlife is suffering.

We had two coyotes walk through our backyard a couple of weeks ago. One was quite chubby and we decided "she" was pregnant. We also have deer and other smaller wildlife like racoons and opposum, rabbits, squirrels. Fun but hard to grow our garden!

Ah so, Jim from Jupiter- you live in ILLINOIS- l lived in Chgo for 10 years and loved it, but no cayotes except in the zoo.
Are they endangered there? Of course they have had to expand their range, look what we have done to their habitat! In this photo it looks like a German shepherd with bigger ears.

Coyotes seem to be adaptable. When people move in with their cats, small dogs, and garbage, the coyotes have a feast! We've dropped from 13 cats a year or so ago to 4 now.
