What a beautiful sunset/rise - these boulders remind me of similiar boulders I seen when travelling around New Zealand's southern island. I wonder if these are the same ?

They are the same boulders Debbie I have several similar photos only mine were taken during the day.

Are these rock formations that have been smoothed by the tide? Or purposely placed there by someone?

Definitely Moeraki Boulders, have painted them a few times, this looks like a photo out of a book called Land of Many Contrasts by Fay Looney...awesome book.

Sheryl.. In Scientific terms, these blobs of rocks are limestone concretions shaped by wave action... found on the East Coast South Island Otago area.... Geography lesson over... lol :-)

Thank you Kerry, I love the scientific term 'blobs'. It puts science in my language. In any terms, it is an awesome sight.

When painting this picture it would be very hard to get these colors. The colors are gorgeous, this is a understatement. Jan. 23, 08

I don't think it would be hard at all but alot of mixing would be involved. I see Alizurin crimson, pthalo blue, yellow ochre, ultrmarine, black and white. Try it!
