what a beautiful blue tounge

Cute little guy.

I don't see anything beautiful about that animal!!!
 |  |
Juliet, are blue tongues nasty? Do they bite?
 |  |
I also assume they are native Aussies. But you know assume does...it makes an a** out of U and ME.

Now I need to google blue tounge to learn more. Nice to see you back on site BIG RED, as we've been missing your tongue-in-cheek comments!

Greg, I suggest you google blue tongue, I don't think 'tounge' is a word. There is a fair bit of information about the Australian Blue-tongue lizard on the Google site. This one is a 'Stumpy Tail' or 'Shingleback'. They are quite docile, gentle creatures, despite their looks - as are some of us.

He looks much nicer sunning than the western diamond backs we have in our hills!!!
 |  |
He looks a little plump. Maybe he is resting while he digests lunch.

I love these creatures. They are so docile, as Ian has said, and it was always a thrill for my children when they found one in the back yard. They would leave out scraps of meat for it and pick it up. Great 'pets' while they were visiting.

Beautiful creatures. Always a joy to find one in your backyard!
 |  |
They are a boon to any garden they bask in: they eat the snails, with a relishing crunch! And when they flick out that really blue tongue, it's a natural bonus.
 |  |
I agree with Elizabeth. They are very useful critters.

OOPS, looks like I don't spell too well, never mind, I have had blue tongues in my garden as well as water dragons. Unfortunately one fell into my swimmingpool and drowned.

We have a 'critter' theme going today. I like learning about these blue tongue-not something I would come across on the east coast of US.
Ian-way to go with your last remark

Intriguing animal--much more interesting than all of those cats and dogs we always seem to have in over-abundance.

I agree with Anita. Cat lover that I really am, I was hoping that the hard would not be yet another kitty, and out popped this fabulous creature. I've yet to see a tongue of any color, though. There must be another photo of him with blue tongue sticking out....
