The massacre that took place at the Alamo changed Texas history and ultimately US history. The defenders of the Alamo provided the Texas army enough time to prepare for the next battle which Mexico lost. Texas is the only state that joined the US by treaty. All other states were annexed into the More...

Karen, Yes it is mine. I actually have a PO Box at the post office right across the street from the Alamo. So I am here every week. Since this is the number 1 tourist attraction in all of Texas, I help a lot of lost tourists.

I have been there several times throughout my life, so maybe I was one of those totally lost tourist you helped :).
Each time I have gone there is always a funny feeling in my stomach, do you ever feel that overwhelming feeling since you see this site several times weekly?

I rarely think about what really happened there. Usually busy running my errands (PO Box on one side of the Alamo and bank inside mall on the other side). And then across the street from the Alamo is everything tourist. Kind of hard to be thoughtful on the tragedy that occurred at the Alamo with the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum across the street yelling creepy stuff at everyone walking by.

What a shame that more land was not set aside for a more reverant feeling, such as many of the Civil War battlefields. Thanks, Christina, for the history reminders.

I visited the Alamo a few years ago and I have never felt so reverent and awestruck...wonderful place. By the way, though, that puzzle was cruel cruel cruel to anyone over the age of 16. Those white pieces!!!!! My eyes!!!!

I had the chance to visit it this spring during a conference at the hotel across the street I only regret that I did not skip a couple of the meetings and spend more time Thanks

Pat, I agree with you about the white pieces! Maybe we could get Gath to give us a choice of backgrounds, like violet or orange, so the white pieces would be easier to see.

Nice picture Christina, I lived in Texas for many years, and always loved San Antonia in the spring time. Isn't everyone always surprised by how small the Alamo mission is?
