Darmstadt was the home of Princess Alix, grand daughter of Queen Victoria, who married Tsar Nicholas of Russia. He built this Russian Church in Darmstadt so that he could worship while he courted his future wife. She converted to Russian orthodoxy in order to marry him and changed her name to Alexandra.
