This actually had it's grand opening the other night, I believe.
It's supposed to look like a sinking ship but not from this angle. Talk about a damn eyesore on what used to be our lovely foreshore. A West Australian politician said that's what we were having and that was it!!! We have got a More...

Our historic town jetty was also demolished to build a marina just in front of this building. We were told a small section of the jetty would be removed and what happened, there's none left.

Oh Anne - this is so sad and sounds SOOOO familiar. Happens here too. This looks like a poor man's opera house!

While a ship with billowing sails sounds wonderful, a sinking ship has rather different connotations! And to lose some wonderful history, which helps to make you unique and is irreplaceable, is so short-sighted ... and you can't fix the damage!

Oh, my goodness! I wonder what it looks like from the other sides! What a shame to spoil a lovely waterfront! I hope what goes on inside the entertainment center makes up for the outside!

You have my sympathies Anne. When I looked at Kate's picture of the Sydney Opera House I was thinking how lovely it still is all these year's later. I don't think your "Entertainment Centre" will evoke such feelings. You also have to wonder why any seaside city would want to celebrate the sinking of a ship!

Anne, you have my sympathy. But think positive - as Libby says, I hope whatever goes on inside makes up for the outside. You could always paint it green.

C'est la vie Anne. It is unreal that these 'things' are erected and destroy the asthetics and history of the area.

Thanks for all your comments, everyone. It upsets me as this is a historical town but the powers that be come in and destroy our history. We don't need these modern buildings blocking out the old section as there is plenty of room for these "new" buildings in other areas. There isn't even More...

Not far from this building we have a street, Stirling Terrace, referred to as the historic precinct where our beautiful old court house is situated and many other old buildings. Alongside of the Court House they built a new police station and court house in the most hideous iron and glass design More...

Anne, if you don't like what is happening to your town, run for Council and fix the problems.

Ian, I really don't think I have what it takes to be a councillor. Not strong enough to voice my opinions in a group of people.

Anne you are strong enough. This reminds me of the "Civic Centre" that was built in Cowra in the 70's a total eyesore and still ugly and unusable today!
