Fabulous Sue! Heidi they're called "naked Ladies" because the flowers appear before the leaves do! LOL!! Another couple of names for them are Belladonna and Amaryllis (it's proper name is Amaryllis belladonna). They belong to the family Amaryllidaceae. They aren't related to the to the belladonna drug family. http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/bell001.htm

Beautiful, beautiful flowers. Do they have a pleasant scent?

Kate, it is just the opposite order. The folage comes up in mid spring then it dies back. Each bulb is a single flower. In Oklahoma the flower blooms in late summer. They are very striking either single flowers or in groups.
Gramma Linda, yes they have a nice fragrance.

My Naked Ladies are flowing now back in Dubbo. I am in humid Queensland at the moment. Sue, it depends which way you look at it. The flowers seems to come first as they come in late summer and then the leaves come after the flowers have died back in autumn or early winter.

Hmmm. Naked Ladies.
"Pictures of Lily"
Check out The Who's song of that title, the lyrics are a hoot, especially seeing the name of these Lilies.
