Lighthouses are so wonderful!

I think it is so sad that many of these beautiful lighthouses are falling into disrepair. Thankfully some are being protected by historical societies. Even with all the navigational tools available today, I would think these lighthouses would be useful. Nothing beats being able to see where you are going.

The fed's are giving away a lighthouse on the eastern side of the Cleveland harbor. They'll move it for free and the Coast Guard will maintain its solar beacons.

I have heard of some lighthouses being turned into living quarters. I think I would love to be able to have that view!

Another of my pics. This lighthouse was moved back from the edge of the cliff in 1996, or it would have been destroyed by erosion. A group of citizens raised the funds for the move. It is not now a functioning beacon for navigation, but it does have rotating lights and at certain times a group of volunteers conducts tours where one can climb to the top.

Yes I like lighthouses too.

We also love to visit lighthouses, probably because they are usually in such spectacular places!! Recently did the new walk to the lighthouse on South Head, and can recommend it, not too far, and beautiful!!

I've spent many a day near the Cape Hatteras & Ocracoke lighthouses in NC-if they could tell us their stories...

Thanks for the photo jj. It is one of the most popular and beautiful light houses on the Cape Cod peninsula. It has been photgraphed, put on post cards, and painted hundreds of times. It's even on mail boxes everywhere.
