everybody! Whoa, what a fun puzzle and neat photo! This looks so bizarre with the cars parked right up against the rail and then, what ho, a person skulling along just a few feet away. Obviously I've never been to Amsterdam but it certainly looks grand. I suppose that is not a skull at all but something else. Meanwhile, whose photograph and did is that you in the watercraft?

We could drop the "did," I suppose. Lo siento.

the building is of old basilica,Santa Maria della Salute, generally known as just the salute
was built to honor the Virgin Mary, for stopping the dreaded plague disease, that killed almost 1/3 of the population in 1630.(ooops not a history person but the guide who was with us was very informative)

I hate to be pedantic but I think it is a kayak, not a skull. Skullers sit on sliding seats and use long oars.

Ha, Ian - I was wondering if this was you on your Netherlands trip (chuckle) - but do you kayac? appy - neat photo for sure, as was the Venice photo!

I agree Ian. I think it is a touring kayak. We have a neighbor who is out on the Rideau Canal every morning in July who has a similar kayak.

Good photo Appy, but the water looks a bit muddy!

This is one way to beat the traffic jams I guess! Great photo appy, glad the holiday was fun. I like it when the guide can give info on what is around.

No Joan, I have never used a kayak, but I am very old oarsman.

BTW, it is spelt 'scull', the other spelling is the thing that keeps your brains protected.

I vote for kayak. Tons of people here have Kayaks and I see them every day. Appy, that certainly is a great photo. The water does look muddy, but I've swam in worse! (All it did was turn my swimsuit a rusty red.) I like this photo, Appy. Thanks!

I've been to Amsterdam a few times and believe me you wouldn't want to swim in the canals - mud being the least of your worries, deadly diseases on the other hand..... Apart from that Amsterdam is a beautiful city and well worth a visit.

I agree Doona.

You see, I got the conversation going anyway. As if that were ever a problem. I did start to say kayak but never saw one that long and, somehow, didn't expect them to turn up in Europe. Probably where they started -- I tend to think of them in the Great North or else Polynesia. See what I More...

And, OK, I promise not to swim in the canal.

Ian, having a particularly pedantic day! hehe

Joann, you stole my thought about beating the traffic jams! Great minds and all that.

Gail, I have had better days. Thanks for the thought.
